Barcelona will change stadium for the 2023/24 season Barcelona's second largest sports facility will become the temporary home of the blaugrana

In what is the symbolic site of the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, President Joan Laporta and the city's deputy mayors presented this morning the agreement that will allow the Catalan team to play its matches at the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium. Xavi's team will play its matches from the 2023-24 season in the city's second-largest sports facility, in order to conclude the works that will affect Camp Nou as smoothly as possible. Internal works that will include the demolition of the third level and the south gate area where the Medical Centre used to be, but also restoration works such as anti-carbonation and waterproofing of the stands, as well as structural finishes and the improvement and renovation of the retransmission systems. This is not the end of the story, as Barca also intends to make a series of improvements to its stadium that will have a direct positive impact on the environment and should reduce the club's carbon footprint and improve the biodiversity of the area.

However, these works will make the club lose some spectators, since the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium will be able to accommodate 55,000 spectators against the 98,000 at Camp Nou. Another structural problem is undoubtedly that of the athletics track, which will keep fans away from the pitch. Problems that fortunately the fans and the club will only have to live with for one season, because after years of rumours, projects and stopped work, the biggest construction project in the Catalan capital in the next few years is about to start, with the aim of delivering an even more modern and functional stadium than the current one, almost on the level of the new Santiago Bernabeu with its new retractable roof.
