Don C, artist and streetwear icon from Chicago, has just been appointed Creative Strategy and Design Advisor of the Chicago Bulls. A role that will allow him to work closely with the NBA on projects and initiatives that - reads the press release - will be addressed to the audience experience through new immersive and audiovisual technologies, digital content and initiatives for youth and community.

The former Manager of Kanye West and the G.O.O.D. Music label, as well as founder of the Just Don brand, has been a big basketball fan since his father took him to Bulls games as a child, taking advantage of the $2 games Tuesdays. And his brand has always highlighted a strong influence of sports aesthetics, also collaborating with Nike, Jordan and Off-White for items that have reinterpreted jerseys and apparel of NBA teams with his street style. Now he can finally work directly with the professional league and for his favorite team, fulfilling a childhood dream.

The Bulls aren't the first team to entrust franchise art direction to an exceptional fan. The Cleveland Cavaliers with Daniel Arsham and the Detroit Pistons with Big Sean have already explored this new direction, which sees NBA teams not just from a sports perspective but as an all-around brand. And the NBA is also constantly looking to expand its prestige and influence, often going beyond the parquet court to enter the lifestyle and the city community with initiatives unrelated to the sports aspect. Could this new trend of appointing personalities from the arts and entertainment to manage the creative aspects of sports clubs be catching on beyond NBA basketball?
