Messi returned to wear the number 10 in the French Cup

An exception due once again to the strange rules of the French competition

Messi returned to wear the number 10 in the French Cup An exception due once again to the strange rules of the French competition

Recently, we told you about the Coupe de France and the incredible journeys some clubs are forced to make due to the fact that teams from overseas regions also participate in the competition. But apart from the long plane journeys to the South Pacific, the Coupe de France, the competition awarded by the Fédération Française de Football also manages to make people talk about some of the strange rules that have been in place since its foundation in 1918. In addition to the colours of the shirts, each player can choose a different number to the one he usually wears in the league or the Champions League, so yesterday Messi returned to wearing his beloved number 10, while Donnarumma defended PSG's posts with the one. All this happens because in the Coupe de France only and exclusively in the 32, 16 and 8 finals the holders must wear numbers ranging from one to eleven. So yesterday the Argentine, thanks to the absence of Neymar, went back in time, wearing again that number ten that accompanied him in Barcelona for almost all his career.

As can be seen from the shirts used by the Parisians, the impositions of the French league do not stop there. Once again last night PSG took to the pitch with a different sponsor, this time it was Crédit Agricole's turn, while in the penultimate round it was Betclic who took the place of Accor Live Limitless, Paris' top sponsor who has now learned to come to terms with the Cup. Very strict rules but which the League is not willing to change, remaining faithful to history and tradition but mainly to those rules passed in 1918 which in today's football seem a bit antiquated.
