The celebrations for NBA's 75th season are going strong in the new jerseys dedicated to the franchise's cities

The new NBA City Edition 2021-22 The celebrations for NBA's 75th season are going strong in the new jerseys dedicated to the franchise's cities

After have paid respect to the league's history at the start of the season with the short film NBA LANE, the NBA using its own tradition for the new City Edition design. The heritage celebrated for the 75th season is still present in the details of the jerseys just unveiled. The theme "Moment Mixtape" brought each team to underline the greatest moment of their sport history in a sweet memory trip.

Some teams have brought back the times when they played in the ABA (American Basketball Association). like the San Antonio Spurs with the Dallas Chaparrals logo on their jersey or with the iconic white, red and blue ABA ball stitched on the Denver Nuggets kit. The Brooklyn Nets brought back the pattern made famous in the 70s by Julius Erving. The Los Angeles Lakers meanwhile have chosen to use the Minneapolis Blue with the addition of a small detail from each decade, from the Showtime Lakers to Kobe and Shaq.

The New York Knicks jersey is design by KITH and is inspired by the many battles fought during the '90 in the Madison Square Garden, in which the Knickerboxer's orange pops against the black background. Same effect as the Golden State Warrior's one, with the golden details used to describe the club history, from the We Believe era stitched on the lower border to a reminder of the franchise's six titles. Minnesota is bringing back the old Kevin Garnett vibe, using a line of small fir trees to underline the jersey's borders, the Dallas Mavericks the old logo with the Rodeo Hat from the first Dirk Nowitzki times and the Houston Rockets the vertical stripes used during the second half of the nineties. The Chicago Bulls took the cursive font from the firsts years of Micheal Jordan career and the Toronto Raptors the one used during the Vince Carter's era in Canada, with also a golden Velociraptor in the middle.

The Miami Heat have taken the mixtape concept very seriously, cutting up the logo letters from various fonts used during the franchise's history in a very weird ransome note manner. The Oklahoma City Thunder on the other hand unveiled a plain white jersey with grey details, while the Utah Jazz and the Phoenix Suns have just recycled last year's jersey. A fatigue sign but also an indication of the weariness of the market, in which nobody wants to take big risks without reward.

This year City Edition are a joyful trip on the memory lane, and some hardcore fans will crave for the hidden Easter Eggs, but they add nothing to the history they want to pay homage to and in some cases are trapped in the past.
