Mexican football selection to wear Li-Ning at Olympics

Chinese brand will unexpectedly take over from adidas

Mexican football selection to wear Li-Ning at Olympics Chinese brand will unexpectedly take over from adidas

Surprisingly, it will not be adidas that represents Mexico in the next Olympics, but Li-Ning. The Chinese brand arrived in Mexico about three years ago with a major expansion plan to open thirteen shops in different states in three years. The brand founded by Li Ning, a former Chinese gymnast, does not intend to stop its rise and to strengthen its brand in Mexico has recently signed a sponsorship agreement with the Mexican Olympic Committee (COM). After launching itself into the world of professional football with less than positive experiences with Celta Vigo and Sevilla, the Chinese brand is trying again with Mexico. In Spain, the Chinese brand's adventure did not go as everyone expected: Li-Ning España declared bankruptcy in 2010, leaving uncertainty about its future in sportswear. Years later, the tables have turned, and Li-Ning was the only brand, along with Hermès, to gain value during the pandemic. Today it is one of the most sought-after brands in the Asian market together with Anta Sport, a preference fuelled by both the lockdown and the recent boycotts against brands such as Nike and adidas that have clashed with the Chinese government.

It will be a return then for the brand that already dressed the Mexican football selection at the 2019 Pan American Games. The new uniforms have not yet been revealed, but they could be very similar to those of 2019. Mexico will be part of the sixteen teams qualified for the football Olympics, where they will compete with the other nations from 23 July.
