The unexpected passion of Serse Cosmi for Stüssy

Will the bench be back with the flat cap or with the latest model of the Californian brand?

The unexpected passion of Serse Cosmi for Stüssy Will the bench be back with the flat cap or with the latest model of the Californian brand?

On the Crotone bench from today sits Serse Cosmi, called to replace the exonerated Giovanni Stroppa. The former Arezzo, Perugia, Genoa, Udinese and Palermo among many, represented an era of football on the bench especially in terms of style. His coaching career began in the 90s from Pontevecchio and 30 years later he returned to a Serie A bench to try yet another miracle.

Biting voice (so recognizable as to be one of the voice actors in the film "The Robinsons - A space family"), hard methods and a flat cap that never sets: these are the 3 characteristics that have made Serse Cosmi iconic, one who started from below for then arrive in the Champions League with Udinese 2005-06. The style of the Perugia coach has almost always included a headgear that has evolved over the course of these 30 long years of career. Before arriving at the iconic flat cap, Cosmi brought the classic baseball model with a rounded visor to many Serie A and Serie B benches. Among these stand out, especially at the turn of the 90s and 2000s, several Stüssy hats.

Anticlimatic compared to the style of his colleagues, halfway between the suit of Carletto Mazzone and the elegance of Sven-Göran Eriksson, Cosmi anticipated the times, wearing one of the most hype brands of the moment. It was the 80s when Shawn Stussy launched a brand mainly for skaters and surfers in the Californian heat of Laguna Beach, the same period in which Serse Cosmi toured various Umbrian amateur teams as a player, before retiring at just 28 years old. The beginning of his career as a coach coincides with a clear change of style, the same that will lead Cosmi to dress different Stüssy models, a marriage that has the absurd but which increases the hype about the new Crotone coach.

He will make his debut on Wednesday against Atalanta, in a prohibitive first test for the new Crotone. One thing is certain: his 3-5-2. Less certain is the hat he will choose to make his debut at the Gewiss Stadium: flat cap or a return to origins with Stüssy?
