The Patta SS21 collection's hidden football reference

NO Antisemitismo/Violenza/Razzismo

The Patta SS21 collection's hidden football reference NO Antisemitismo/Violenza/Razzismo

In the new Spring/Summer21 collection by Patta, the Dutch brand wanted to include a reference to Italian football in the 1990s. In fact, among the garments, there are different inspirations to various subcultures such as the London of the 60s, Amsterdam, and, precisely, Zinedine Zidane who wears, during a warm up, a uniform with the words NO Antisemitismo/Violenza/Razzismo. And Patta proposed it again, with an almost identical pattern.

Patta's line follows the spirit of independence and originality of the Amsterdam brand. Precisely, Zidane's shirt is a moment of defiance to the hostilities, social adversities that defined the culture of that period, and in general, on the collection all the prints are particular and with references to iconic moments. Zidane's shirt, in this case, is very similar to the size of that model shown by the champion French at the time of Juventus, with the same font. The other garments have strong color contrasts and, as mentioned, some iconic elements characteristic of the realities that Patta wanted to refer to - such as the three XXX, symbol of Amsterdam.

The history of Zidane's shirt is particular. In 1999, champion French wore that jersey before a match at the Stadio Olimpico against Lazio, at a time when in Italian football he was proposing several campaigns against racism and violence in football, after there had been serious episodes of discrimination by fans inside the stadiums. Patta's connection with football is a combination that has been going on for several years and that has also offered several interesting aesthetic cues, such as the work on the 2020 Inter Milan and Ajax shirts, but also that of Napoli Calcio
