The city of Naples will name the municipal stadium to Diego Armando Maradona. After last night the mayor of Naples De Magistris had publicly said that he wanted to dedicate the Fuorigrotta plant to Pibe de Oro - in agreement with Aurelio De Laurentiis - this morning, as Il Mattino reports, Laura Bismunto, the president of the Toponymy Commission of the City Council of Naples, announced the change of title of the San Paolo Stadium in Naples.

The Neapolitan stadium, initially called Stadio del Sole and renamed with today's title in '63, will be the second stadium in the world to bear the name of Maradona. The other is the Diego Armando Maradona in Buenos Aires, where Argentinos Junior plays.  From the brutalist echoes, the stadium had been inaugurated in 1959 with a match between Naples and Juventus (2-1 for the Azzurri) and has been modernized several times in its history: in the nineties on the occasion of the Italian World Cup, in 2010 for the return of Napoli in the European cups (modification demanded by UEFA) and in 2019 for the Universiadi. Maradona's death is a mourning that will leave its mark in the Neapolitan community and dedicating the Stadium of Naples to what many have called the greatest footballer of all time is an essential gesture.

To celebrate - for what will of course be possible - the death of Maradona tonight, in the Europa League, Napoli will play while diego's images will flow on the stadium screens - a request made by Napoli and immediately accepted by UEFA. El Peluda's footage will flow before and during the game against Rijeka, which will be played behind closed doors. And probably, for the last time, also in the San Paolo Stadium.
