Brooklyn Nets pay homage to Jean-Michel Basquiat

Brooklyn Nets pay homage to Jean-Michel Basquiat After Notorius B.I.G. another tribute to a legendary local artist

The relationship between the Nets and the art of the Brooklyn "neighborhood" has always been special. Also in the next NBA season, the franchise has decided to pay homage to a local-global artist like Jean-Michel Basquiat, who died prematurely at the age of 28 in 1988. The team coached by Steve Nash will dedicate its city edition jersey to Basquiat, according to reports from the New York rumors. The first rumors came from SportsLogos.net, rumors later confirmed by an authoritative source such as the New York Post.

After the tribute to Notorius B.I.G. of 2019 - another Brooklynite that has exported local culture to the world - with the inscription "Bed-Stuy" on one of the most beautiful city editions ever, the Nets change art but not aim: to demonstrate that Brooklyn is a place where culture contamination and creativity are homemade elements. In 2020, therefore, it will be the turn of Basquiat, not surprisingly one of the most appreciated artists by Kevin Durant, ready for his debut in the Nets jersey after a year stopped in the pits to recover from the bad injury of 2019.

In terms of style, the shirt will be black and the writing "BKLYN NETS" clearly recalls the style of the American writer, with a design reminiscent of Basquiat's handwriting. A rainbow border outlines the shirt, which also includes the artist's signature at the bottom, a stylized crown, which will be placed on the NBA "tag jock" logo. Nike obviously embraced the project with enthusiasm and adapted to the style of the jersey, showing itself in shades of blue and gold.

Although there is no official status yet, Basquiatball mania has already started in Brooklyn. A jersey that smacks of legend and that is dedicated to a legend for one of the teams that is among the favorites for the 2020-21 NBA title.
