The Paisley design on the new Manchester City third kit

The pattern is a cross between football, fashion and music

The Paisley design on the new Manchester City third kit The pattern is a cross between football, fashion and music

PUMA Football and Manchester City launch the new Citizen third kit for the 2020-21 season. Once again the rumors of the previous months are confirmed and the particular design of the team chasing Messi is one of a kind. Once again, PUMA goes further to communicate the culture and roots of a club. This time the inspiration is halfway between fashion and music. The Paisley pattern, in fact, is a clear reference to the musical heritage of a lively and active city like Manchester and to the style that in the 60s was popular among the trendiest clubs in the city.

The stylistic and cultural starting points are the "Mod" and "Brit Pop" eras of the 90s and both, in turn, refer to the style of the 60s, when Paisley was a must have for the young people of that generation. The fashion approach is gaining ground and, together with architecture, is one of the most used references by PUMA. Trend also confirmed by David Bremond, Head of Product Line Management Teamsport Licensed at PUMA:

For the City Third Kit we looked at cultural influences from Manchester that have impacted the world. Manchester is a city recognised globally for its football and its music scene, so for this special jersey we have designed a one-off, exclusive paisley pattern on the jersey. For the design we have utilised the rose and the three rivers from the club’s crest to create this unique jersey at the junction of football, music and fashion."

In addition to the City players, Joe Donovan and Tom Ogden of Blossoms, an indie pop band from Stockport and big fans of the team, were also involved for the launch of the shirt. Behind Kevin Cummins' shots are Sterling, Gabriel Jesus, Zinchenko and Jessica Park.
