Gaudì's mosaics inspired Barcelona's new pre-match shirt

Architecture and geometry still underpinning Nike's new designs

After silently launching the 202/2021 home kit, Nike and Barcelona also reveal the first items related to the training and pre-match collection that the Blaugrana will wear until December.

Like every year, Nike has produced a series of highly technical performance garments, continuing that path started last season with the Vapor Strike suits. But the item that undoubtedly attracts attention is the pre-match shirt, with a design that those who have been to at least once in Barcelona cannot have seen before: the references are in fact the mosaics by Antoni Gaudì that can be found above all in Parc Guell, a public park in Barcelona which houses numerous architectural elements, as well as one of the main tourist attractions of the city.

The pre-match Barcelona 2020-2021 shirt boasts a unique look of its kind, with "squares" of different sizes in an abstract 3D style - just like the ones the Catalan artist had designed at the beginning of the last century - still confirming a the trend of Nike has turned, namely to focus on architectural and geometric elements for the uniforms of the next season.

The colors of the shirt are not the classic blue and amaranth, but are a series of shades that still manage to give a sense of belonging to the Barcelona fans; in addition, on the left sleeve there is a "senyera" band with the colors of the Catalan flag, a clear reference to the value of "independencia".

The Barcelona training shirt is available on the Nike website for 59.99 Euros.
