Kevin Durant - who recently announced that he will not force recovery times from the injury to the Achilles tendon - has joined the ownership of the Philadelphia Union, a team that participates in the MLS championship, by purchasing a 5% with an option of an additional 5% starting next year.

With an overall estimate estimated at $325 million, the Brooklyn Nets player's stake would be 16.25 million.

Durant joins the long list of athletes who are investing in football, also reaching his Houston Rockets colleague James Harden, co-owner of the Houston Dynamo.

"I have always been a football fan and wanted to learn more about it. I felt an immediate connection with the owners and staff of the Philadelphia Union and with their vision of the partnership'', said Durant in a statement. "Even if for now I won't deal with it directly, my team and I will have an active role in which I will be able to help the communities of Chester and Philadelphia".

Union and Thirty Five Ventures, a KD company managed with sports manager Rich Kleiman, will collaborate to increase team profile and community awareness through the Kevin Durant Charity Foundation, developing programs to address racial and social injustice and and recovery from the pandemic, sensitive issues also for the NBA world.

"We decided to create a different type of partnership that is not simply a passive participation, but a real involvement in the marketing and business development of the entire Thirty Five Ventures team" explained Kleiman.

Due to Coronavirus, the MLS championship had been suspended in March and will resume from the beginning of next month with a format similar to that of the World Cup within the Wide World of Sport Complex of ESPN at Disney World, acting as a tester for the final of the NBA championship which will take place in the same facilities.
