The Monza racetrack will become a drive-in cinema The choice of the City of Monza pending the F1 world championship

Once upon a time there were drive-in, those open-air cinemas characteristic of the American post-war period where one stayed on board one's car to watch a film projected on the giant screen. This tradition, however, will soon return to topicality: in fact, given that the Formula One season will start at a delay, the Monza circuit will be transformed and will be used as a drive-in cinema from June to September, a unique opportunity for those who want to join his passion for cinematography and motorsports in full compliance with post-pandemic social distancing regulations.

Given the suspension of the 2020 Formula 1 World Championship, paddock 2 of the car circuit that hosts the Italian GP - and which only last year saw Leclerc triumph for a memorable home victory for Ferrari after 9 years - will suffer a ''change of use'' from Thursday to Sunday, days when the film is scheduled. ''With the emergency and all the cultural events suppressed, from carnival to Summer Monza, there was a need to invent something new to help people stuck in the house by the long lockdown to resume a social life, but safely'' he commented Massimiliano Longo, councilor for culture in the province of Monza.

"There will be film titles related to motorsport", continues Pietro Benvenuti, director of the plant. ''The history of Monza lives on thanks to its audience, which is our strength. On any occasion, be it car racing or events. Today we cannot ask the public for a large financial outlay, and the drive in will be at popular prices, with the possibility then that the idea will multiply for example by organizing round tables, interviews or direct chats related to the passion for cars''.

In fact, the ticket price should be ten euros for each car, the revenues of which will be divided in half between the racetrack and the Municipality fund in support of commercial activities in difficulty. The cost to set up the maxi screen, the audio system and the location safety will instead be borne in full by the two main sponsors, Porsche and MySpritz.
