The KombatTM 2000 model introduced by Kappa in 2000 is one of those that made the history of football kits: designed by the Turin brand to become the 'second skin' of the players, exploiting a more elastic and resistant texture, was worn by the Italian national team in occasion of the Belgium & Holland European Championship, when Italy went close to the title before to lose through the golden goal. The Kappa's kit designer Emanuele Ostini, who was inspired by the world of surfing as well explained in this article, defined it like that:

'When the defender takes Inzaghi's shirt, the shirt stretches and the referee sees it. It extends to over 40 cm more than normal and with 40 cm more, you will have the opportunity to score more goals!'

In addition to the Azzurri unforgettable campaign, AS Monaco was also sponsored by the Italian brand, and therefore that Kappa became the Monegasque technical supplier again, has decided to create an updated version of that historic model, exactly 20 years later. On the occasion of the midweek championship match between AS Monaco and Angers, the French team wore a particular shirt, the Kombat XX, inspired by the iconic predecessor.

Between 1998 and 2001 Monaco was without doubt one of the best teams in Ligue 1, and during the collaboration with Kappa they won the 7th home title also thanks to Marco Simone and Ludovic Giuly. The French player is now the manager of the Monaco reserve team, and can be considered the perfect link for the two generations of players: that's why Kappa chose the new faces of the team, the young Abdou Salam Ag Jiddou, Giuseppe Iglio , Maxence Toutain, Gobe Gouano and Moussa Sylla, all born between '98 and 2001, as protagonists of the shots of the photographer Jérémie Mazuka.

In addition to the match shirt, Kappa has also launched a retro lifestyle collection consisting of two shirts and a tracksuit, inspired by the those worn in the early 2000s by Ludovic Giuly himself, but also by Marcelo Gallardo and David Trezeguet: in addition to the two-color collars and the embroidered logos could not miss the iconic and timeless Kappa band.
