Kawhi Leonard is a man of few words. Shy in front of the cameras, introvert during the post match interviews. But in the rare cases in which he talked publicly his expressions have immediately become viral. Leonard has now filed a trademark application for two of his phrases: “What it do baby” and “City views over interviews”.

The most famous of the two, "What it do baby", went viral after the Toronto Raptors won the NBA championship last season. Leonard used the phrase in an Instagram video taken by former teammate Serge Ibaka. The reason that would have pushed the star of the Clippers to file the applications would be related to his intention to use them for an upcoming clothing and footwear line. The application was filed on 23 October, according to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Trademark lawyer Josh Gerben explained the details of the trademark in a video posted to Twitter. Gerben said both trademarks were filed to be used as a slogan or company name, with the "intent to use", suggesting he has future plans and he's not going to use them immediately.
