Amazon to show Premier League matches from 2019

American e-commerce giant break Sky and BT duopoly and will stream 20 season matches

Amazon to show Premier League matches from 2019 American e-commerce giant break Sky and BT duopoly and will stream 20 season matches

It was already in the air for a long time, but it is finally time for an epoch-making change in terms of distribution of TV rights: the Premier League can also be transmitted by Amazon. The American e-commerce giant had already approached the sport and in particular the english football scene in recent months, buying television rights to tennis ATP events and American football and planning a TV series on Manchester City. Now, starting from 2019 and for at least three seasons, will be in possession of one of the packages not yet awarded of 20 matches of the richest league in the world (to be precise, 10 midweek and 10 of the so-called Boxing Day), which will then shared with Sky Sports and another pay-TV, BT Sport. The cost of the deal, which has not yet been disclosed, will presumably increase around £ 90 million.

It will certainly consider a big problem for the British fans, who had already repeatedly remarked on their feeling more and more consumers and less and less supporters: to follow the Premier League, in fact, will have to buy as many as 3 season pass: the 128 games offered by Sky, the 52 from BT and finally that of Amazon, which will be provided at no additional cost to the owners of the Prime Video subscription, who will be able to watch also weekly PL's highlights. How much will it cost to subscribe? £ 79 for the annual pass and £ 7.99 for the monthly pass. To have all three packages, on the other hand, a really monstrous amount of almost 1000 pounds.
