Usain Bolt made a try-out with Borussia Dortmund Also named: one of the best marketing operations made by PUMA

Since his retirement from professional athletics, Usain Bolt - record man on the 100 and 200 - flirted more than once with the football world. Being a massive Manchester United fan and football enthusiast, the Jamaican has never hidden his dream to change the sport for once and today - after a stellar career in athletic - that moment seems to have arrived. Thanks to PUMA, his main sponsor, Usain got a trial for Borussia Dortmund, training for two days with the German team.

“I will make this trial and then I’ll be able to say if I’m good enough or not. Then I will talk to the club. Right now, I don’t want to think behind that, I must understand at which level I am. I’m living a dream, a new chapter in my life. Let’s see what happens.

Yesterday training has been done behind closed doors, but today’s one has been broadcasted live on YouTube. Even with a superb nutmeg, Bolt look miles away from BVB players from a technical point of view and even his physical strength never come out. The sprinters’ running technique is radically different from the footballers’ one: the first is based on wide strides, touching the least terrain to keep the run clean. The footballer’s technique has a different rhythm, in order to keep control on the ball with multiple touches or with a perfect control. So, to become a pro at the highest levels at 31 is super complicated even if you’re Usain Bolt and you have eight Olympic gold medals

The real winner of this operation is PUMA, both Bolt and BVB’s technical sponsor, that is pushing its #NewLevels campaign ahead of the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
