Marseille Supporters vs Netflix The fans of the French club denied a choreography that should've been a commercial for the American company

It happens always more frequently in the stadiums of all Europe that some choreographies made for some important matches are financed by the club, the sponsors, or some other company. That is what it should’ve happened last Sunday at the Stade Velodrome, for the game between Olympique Marseille and Girondins de Bordeaux. For the Ligue 1 big match, in fact, the fans made a particular choreography, that should’ve partially been used by Netflix to promote its Marseille original series.

When the fact was discovered by the supporters, though, polemics started right away, involving many groups of Marseille supporters. According to reports, they didn’t like the will of the club to affiliate the image of Marseille fans with such a modern and un-passionate way to support football. The same French club, afraid of possible retaliation from its own fans, decided to cancel the choreography and also Gerard Depardieu’s fake kick-off.

Netflix also stepped back, giving up in broadcasting its commercials during the game. It was quite a loss for the streaming colossus, as according to report is financed the purchase of the necessary materials, other than the rental of a specifical structure to realize the choreography.
