In every great western movie, there’s a moment when the fateful quote “there’s a new sheriff in town” is pronounced. So, in an imaginary Hollywood blockbuster movie with the principal sports brand as protagonists, we could surprise in discovering that facing the two main characters - of course, Nike and adidas - there’s a third unexpected one: Macron.

Leaving the cinematographic metaphors aside and taking the report made by UEFA about the main brands in the football industry, we discover that the Bologna-based company is the third main brand in European football, with the 8% of the overall businesses in Europe’s 16 major leagues, for a total of 268 clubs. Nike and adidas, the two colossi that share the market, split the 40% of the business, but the very Italian brand confirms itself as the third force in the game.

Macron, in fact, is coming from a great “season”, thanks to a €83,5 million sales volume, 19% bigger than the previous year. This happened thanks to the rising sponsorships in the football, with the first steps made towards the national teams’ kits market, other than rugby, basketball, and volleyball. By doing so, Macron also attracted UEFA’s attention, that made it the first Italian brand to be part of the Top Executive Programme, that supports the minor football leagues with kits furniture.

Macron, that leads the Serie A providing kits for four teams - while Nike and adidas respectively set for three and two - surely is one of the growing brands, and it only has to make one last step to reach the colossus of the sports industry.
