Mitre launch the 17/18 EFL Official Match Ball For the Huddersfield-based brand is an important return in English football

These aren’t easy days for the United Kingdom and we all know that. From the football world comes a news that will be able, at least a little bit, to warm some enthusiast's hearts. It has been announced that Mitre Sport will once again be the official partner for the English Football League (all the leagues under the Premier) with its iconic Mitre Delta. It’s an important return: Mitre took care of the official match ball for the English football for so many years. It provided for the FA Cup’s ball for more than 40 years, and it was the partner of the Premier League until 2000 when the PL signed with Nike.

The history of the brand goes back to the XIX century, when, in 1817, Benjamin Crook opened its tannery in Huddersfield, a commercial city in the northwest of England. His heirs changed the name in “Mitre” in 1949, focusing their energies on the production of match balls for football and rugby, then expanding in cricket and accessories’ world in the Sixties. Mitre was the main sponsor for the World Rugby Association, for the All Blacks and Muhammad Ali for several years.

Also for this new partnership, Mitre wants to maintain its name’s heritage: the new Delta has been updated with the Hyperseam technology, for a perfect trajectory and total traction. Some flaws of the old ball have been corrected, like the problems in case of rain. The Mitre Delta EFL Match Ball (that’s its name) will be available in white and the in yellow, for a better visibility during the winter. And even if there’s already someone who identified a flaw in the EFL’s logo, we’re more than thrilled to see this piece of history on the pitch once more.
