Football and social network: SSC Napoli – Nostalgia Operation Back in the days with Napoli and its supporters

Going on through this football’ social network pages journey, kind of page that look at the soccer in an ironic and enthusiastic way, but creative as well. And through this journey, we bumped into basic feeling: nostalgia

“SSC Napoli – Nostalgia Operation” calling in its own name nostalgia, it has that link that is better to not forget. Because current time it’s a sh... t, sometimes, e so we need to hide in glorious past. We talked to Attilio, Marco, Andrea and Marcello. Those guys grew up loving Schowch, Russotto, Edmundo. But they also have a clear idea about the new stadium and what’s better: winning Champions League or Italian championship? Maybe a third way…

So, starting from good morettism (from Nanni Moretti’s cinema), what’s that nostalgia do you talk about? Behind that ironic coat – sometimes so thick -, there are a lot of tears, let’s face the truth. Is there an age you are more attached to, a time that raises that nostalgia?

We need to lightly take nostalgia, it would be a dangerous feeling, sometimes reactionary. Being not careful you could fall in something prosaic and verbose. It’s naturally thinking tenderly to past, our childhood and football, for a boy it is not a business or a market product."

But  it is complicated to transform passion avoiding verbose nostalgia. Irony is definitely an interpretation key. Post – Maradona age - falling time, that sport via crucis time that brought us to adult age – was surely period that made us men. Irony was the only way to survive. And it is so funny discovering some players lives who maybe never existed outside our memory.

On Facebook profile image there is a player who Neapolitan people love so much, why?

Schwoch was a leader. For us, it is a never ending story. His transfer after an enthusiastic year – after a long terrible time – seemed so absurd. Any Naples support who could see him play wearing that shirt still doesn’t understand that transfer, living it as an early and crazy rip.

Is name’s choice linked to Dino Risi movie “San Gennaro Operation”, and which scene do you love as best? We do love the one when Dudù runs away with the car on the stairs.

Actually, the name is linked to a common front, trying to be different of course. As we tried we just wanna avoid some kind of useless mythologizing about past, a past we used to joke on. That movie is not a direct reference point to our page or our language, but that’s surely a cultural reference. We don’t love just a scene, we do love Baron character.

People often don’t understand the hidden hard work – always joking, but it is definitely a hard work. They think those ironic posts could be a standpoint against or supporting a single player, and you always want to explain how much your work is just ironic work. The same we can meet while we enjoy the match with friends.

There is a hard and big work behind content we propose. At this point, we have a huge archive, and we also have to say thanks to the advice we receive from users. Of course, there are a lot of critics as well, sometimes a user doesn’t’ understand the meaning of our work, but those are the social networks. We don’t know if it’s the best way, but irony is definitely a weapon against bad things, as Napoli–Atalanta.

Let’s choice five Naples history players you want to enjoy a game with. Explaining the reason and how they would watch the game.

The first one is Emanuele Blasi, he has to teach us how to play one-two strike, going through a complicated technical rambling how to fiddle the ball in a short space. The second one is Gianluca Grava, at his place, swearing together, and because he is willing to show me his shinbones collection. The third one is Ignacio Fideleff, to show him the defenders' line movements. The Edmundo, to arrange the night after the match. The last one is Beto, to know where he is.

There are a lot of surrounded Naples social realities, some of those are closer to traditional journalism, other ones prefer to talk about single character. You came out finding your own space, how did you do? Had you a bit o lucky?

We think the reason is the creation of a very participative users community, this community gives us goods and it also works to create an understandable language. People used to follow you if you offer interesting contents and if you allow them to interact with the page.

We wouldn't like to talk about two topics. But we need to, just one of them. Is it weird seeing Higuain wearing Juventus shirt? Almost one year later we still are not used to. Do you think the betrayal concept was been modified after that transfer?

Pain erase is not completely done, we would like to say yes, but it doesn’t. But if we survived to Rinaudo's transfer to Juventus, we can do everything.

We don’t want to ask you if you think Sarri is right or De Laurentis is right (we already know). An eventual break between Naples and Sarri at the end of this year Will it so complicated?

We support Naples even when Sarri will stop to work, in 100 years. Of course we wish he could stay with us till that moment. Unfortunately in this city the passion quickly becomes desperation after two bad matches. A football master becomes a lousy one in a while. Sarri knows, and especially De Laurentiis knows.

Champions League or Italian championship?

Intertoto, our regret.

Thinking about every single player who came to Naples, even someone who is still here, who is your greatest love? Who is the one you identify yourself with? Who is the one would you want to see his success in Naples?

How to choose... We need to put Hamsik in loving list. We identify ourselves in Pavoletti because we have the same ball management. We wanted (we still want to) Russotto’ success.

Twenty or eighty thousands stadium?

Eighty-one thousand, stand up places even in authorities tribune.

How was born the idea, when did it take size, when did you think it worked?

From our personal profiles we used to share some historic stuff about Naples. Then we understand how much a Calderon interview or a Schwoch gif made a natural sharing about memories and personal images, and so we think to make bigger the interaction area. Now we can get involved ex players and journalists, creating some kind of contact point between them and supporters. We don’t joke on, that’s a love act.

We did it! We didn’t talk about Real Madrid.

If you want we can talk about Viareggio championship.
