nss Summer Guide 2016 Not your average destinations

Summer holidays are here and we decided to join forces to draw up a list of the most interesting destinations for this hot Summer 2016.

Tired of your friends who only talk about their trips to Ibiza, Mykonos and the Emerald Coast? This is article is what you need.

#1 Havana, Cuba

Thanks to the reopening of the island's borders (and the fashion show staged by Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel last May) Havana is one of the hottest – litterally – destinations for this Summer. Don’t miss the opportunity to visit the old town, take a walk along the Malecon and try the original mojito, maybe smoking a cigar while sipping it – as Hemingway would have done.

#2 Pantelleria, Sicily

If you have watched A Bigger Splash, Luca Guadagnino’s latest movie inspired by Jacques Deray’s La Piscine, or you just love the bucolic calm of the Sicilian islands, Pantelleria is the place for you. Take the opportunity to exploit the natural resources of its territory: head to Lake Venus to benefit from its natural mud and the Sibà Natural Sauna to expel your toxins. All of this, for free!

#3 Alentejo, Portugal

Only an hour away from Lisbon, this vast hilly plateau dotted with picturesque villages, wheat fields and olive trees is one of the most authentic areas of Portugal. A haven of rest where you can go around riding a horse or a bicycle, bathe in the Atlantic waters and eat fresh fish in the restaurants built from old white and blue fishermen's houses. This area has enchanted, among others, French shoe designer Christian Louboutin, who bought a house there.

#4 Boracay Island, Philippines

This island of the Philippines is famous for its white beaches and its crystal clear waters. You can reach it by landing at the near Caticlan airport – avoiding the chaotic capital, Manila – and enjoy the life there for a very low price. During the day you can relax on the beach, at evening you can dine with local delicacies and have fun partying in one of the numerous bars and clubs of the island.

#5 Folegandros, Greece

In this small island of the Cyclades you can breathe the authentic Greek lifestyle. Bougainvillea and hibiscus colour the white wooden balconies of the houses, the streets are full of shops and restaurants with typical tables under the trees, small bakeries produce fresh bread whose perfume spreads on the streets every morning. Don’t miss a visit to the Kastro, an ancient fortress now converted into a village.

#6 Bali, Indonesia

If in addition to relaxing you like to play sports (especially surfing), pick flowers, eat fruits and exotic food, do yoga and get in touch with nature, Bali is the destination for you. Don't miss the chance to visit the sacred temples of the island: there is one at each corner of the street and the most striking are those on water.

#7 Positano, Campania

Considered the pearl of the Amalfi Coast, Positano is famous for its nightlife, luxury boutiques, fine food and beautiful beaches you can reach by walking from the city centre through long staircases. In the '60s the town was famous for its ‘Moda Mare’ (swimwear), heritage still alive thanks the numerous shops where you can get made to measure sandals.

#8 Blagaj, Bosnia

This old Ottoman Turkish town is located on the banks of the Buna river and still retains its ancient charm. The ideal place to relax enjoying the sound of water surrounded by nature and spend a holiday discovering the Turkish culture and cuisine, at ridiculously low prices.
