The 35-year-old star's confirmation came after almost 6 months of gestation. Before, it was almost sure Sacha Baron Cohen would have played the role of Freddie Mercury, but this option dropped after the opposition from some members of the band that wouldn't like their image to be associated with that of comedies like Borat and The Dictator. Later on, 20th Century Fox had thought of Ben Winshaw and director Dexter Fletcher, but also these alternatives blurred again.

Now, finally, no more doubts and assumptions. It's official: Bohemian Rhapsody will be screenplayed by Anthony McCarten (The Theory of Everything), co-produced by Brian May and Roger Taylor, directed by Bryan Singer and, above all, it'll star Rami Malek.

The film is set to being filming early next year.
