Every year the red carpet of the Academy Awards is full of hundreds of elegant and sensual Hollywood stars who compete, in a fierce flash battle, to get the title of best dressed celebrity of the evening. Unfortunately, as each of us have learned after several unsuccessful culinary experiments , not all the donuts have the hole. The unfortunate red carpet is also forced to deal with stars who, inexplicably proud, show their horrors of style aka worst outfits ever. For them, the hope to impress the whole world, is soon replaced by critics, the most fearsome and hungry beasts who wander into the jungle of the cinema.
Here's the best " try again, you'll be luckier " as know as the worst Oscar's looks of all time.
Cher - 1986
One thing is certain: Cher had enviable abs in the 1980s. Her mental health, on the other hand, we can not swear by. The fact remains that we love her, despite the fact that she chose to wear a peacock as a headdress and even in later editions of the Oscars she dared to wear "questionable" outfits. An icon for better or worse.
Demi Moore - 1989
In 1989, Demi Moore and Bruce Willis were a perfect couple, one of the coolest couples of the time, who are still united today even though they are no longer husband and wife. Their style on the red carpet, however, was downright tragic. The DIY outfit (a mix of biker shorts, damask skirt and bustier) that the Ghost actress wore in front of the paparazzi is still considered one of the ugliest outfits at the Oscars. It's hard to disagree with that.
Kim Basinger - 1990
Neither meat nor fish. Back then there were not yet the great stylists of today. That's too bad, because if Kim Basinger, one of Hollywood's most beautiful women of the decade, had had a trusted style advisor, she might never have thought of showing off her "innate" tailoring skills in that dress. Fortunately, when she won the Oscar eight years later, her look was much better.
Whoopi Goldberg - 1993 / 2009
It seems clear that Demi Moore's lesson did not help. That's why Whoopi Goldberg appeared in a similar outfit, only much more extravagant, at the Academy Awards in 1993. If you did not think it was possible, she did even worse in later years when she opted for an animal print caftan in 2009.
Tyra Banks - 2000
If you swap the red carpet at the Oscars for prom, you risk a flop look like Tyra Banks in 2000. Ignoring the superstitious tradition that sees purple in showbiz as a harbinger of doom, the supermodel opted for a Disney princess dress with a strapless bodice and voluminous tulle skirt. In short, Barbie Tyra.
Bjork - 2001
The image of Bjork dressed as a swan laying an egg on the red carpet is one that has entered all of our cultural baggage. However, doubt remains: did she really like this dress or did she just wear it to make Marjan Pejoski happy?
Pamela Anderson - 2001
To be fair, this was Vanity Fairs Oscar after-party, but Pamela Anderson's choice is so "wrong" that we can not help but be reminded. Some people might dress like that to go to the beach, others to the disco, but Pam did not. She went beyond that. Maybe she had just finished recording an episode of Baywatch?
Faith Hill - 2001
For the record: The dress was by Versace, but unfortunately Faith Hill looked like a fairy in it who had just stepped off a rainbow onto the red carpet.
Selma Blair - 2002
It was a morning like any other. Selma Blair was cleaning up around the house and suddenly remembered that she had to attend the Oscars in a few hours. So it happened that she appeared on the red carpet in her fluttering Vileda mop (by Versace).
Uma Thurman - 2004
...think about it, ten years earlier, she had driven a legion of fans crazy in a simple white shirt and black trousers. Then she woke up one morning in 2004 with the whimsical idea of wearing this ill-fitting homage to Marie Antoinette by Christian Lacroix. Okay, Uma, we love and forgive you anyway, but please, choose a more minimalist outfit again next time.
Diane Keaton – 2004
No, Diane was not a costume party. Ms Keaton appeared on the red carpet in 2004 as a cosplay version of Charlie Chaplin. Or maybe it was the penguin from Batman?
Charlize Theron - 2006
Perhaps in Hollywood they know the saying too much is not too much. Proof of this is Charlize Theron's 2006 look, a dress by John Galliano that alternates between black and green, with a train, a bow, fabric overlays and 'a voluminous beehive hairstyle to boot. We can bet that despite the actress's beauty, no one thought, "J'adore".
Sophia Loren - 2009
Even the national Sophia can fail. The example? The paper-colored Ferrero Rocher dress (actually by Armani) full of ruffles that she wore to the 2009 Oscars. The sheer sleeves, beaded accessories, curly hair and tan did not help.
Helena Bonham Carter - 2011
Fanned clutch, sunglasses, pseudo-British garter belt and gothic dress. Apparently, after receiving her Oscar, Helena Bonham Carter was expected to attend Queen Elizabeth's five of the clock tea.
Kristen Wiig - 2020
Critics have called it a lasagne dress. The boxy shape, colour, ruffles and contrasting gloves could not save this Valentino look. And Kristen Wiig, who wanted to play it safe with her stint for the Italian fashion house, ended up on the list of worst dressed at the last editions of the Oscars.
