A €158.00 Hermès bag broke sales records at Vestiaire Collective The most expensive item ever sold on the platform

The secondhand and archival world is gaining momentum. Yesterday, Vestiaire Collective announced that a very rare Hermès "Faubourg" Birkin bag sold for €158,000 on the platform last May. It is the most expensive item ever sold on the platform beating the record previously set by Hermès last November also by a Birkin sold for 112,000 €. The model was virtually unobtainable: only 50 bags were produced for Hermès VIP customers in 2019, all distinguished by a unique clochette (the leather pouch that accompanies the brand's bags) in the shape of an orange shopping bag.

The sale is a demonstration of how investment pieces on Vestiaire Collective are steadily increasing in price, especially in the case of Hermès the price of whose handbags have increased by an average of 15 percent this year. Demand for Birkins have also increased by 20 percent this year with the annual sales average rising by 15 percent registering a monthly peak last January when sales increased by 40 percent compared to the same month in 2021. The race for the It Bag to invest in does not stop with Hermès: according to data provided by Vestiaire Collective among the most sought-after brands are also Louis Vuitton, Dior, Prada, and Gucci.
