Jaguar Inaugurates Its Electric Era with the Type 01 Cutting-edge technology and a launch event featuring Florence Pugh, Sienna Spiera, Karl-Anthony Towns and rapper Kano
Jaguar chose New York for the world premiere of the Type 01, the new luxury four-door electric grand tourer with which the British automaker inaugurates a new chapter in its history. Designed, developed and built in the United Kingdom, the Type 01 is the first production Jaguar built on the new Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA), a dedicated platform that has allowed designers to rethink the car's proportions and characteristics.
The silhouette is defined by an elongated hood, a particularly low roofline and clean surfaces, which give the four-door a sleek and distinctive profile. The design originated from a single line drawn on a blank sheet of paper, the starting point of an aesthetic language that looks to the future while retaining references to the brand's heritage, particularly models such as the E-Type and the XJS.
The new Jaguar introduces technical features that make it, according to the brand, the most powerful and aerodynamic road car ever produced by its facilities. The electric platform develops over 1,000 hp, with a power reserve always available, and employs an 850-volt architecture, with a projected range of up to 720 kilometres on the WLTP cycle. Thanks to 350 kW DC fast charging, it will also be possible to recover up to 321 kilometres of range in just 13 minutes, according to the manufacturer's estimates. These are performances that accompany Jaguar's ambition to reinterpret the concept of the grand tourer, keeping driving pleasure and comfort at the forefront.
The premiere involved some of the city's most iconic locations, with dedicated digital installations celebrating the new model, while the car made its way through Manhattan to arrive in motion at STORIED in West Chelsea, where the evening's exclusive event was held. The debut gives shape to the brand's new identity, which aims to combine technological innovation, design and contemporary culture.
Within the spaces of STORIED, guests were able to explore a series of installations dedicated to the creative process behind the Type 01. Among these, an aluminium structure suspended from the ceiling reproduced the original line from which the project was born, while the Impossible Panel told the story of the engineering challenge required to translate the body's forms into a production model. Another installation, created using the marks left by tyres during testing, documented the hundreds of thousands of kilometres covered in the car's development, highlighting its dynamic yet composed character.
For the launch, Jaguar brought together personalities from the worlds of film, music and the creative arts, including Karl-Anthony Towns, rapper Kano and actress Florence Pugh. The evening was accompanied by an intimate performance by British singer-songwriter Sienna Spiro, winner of Best New Artist at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, and by a gastronomic experience conceived by chef Roze Traoré around the idea of uncompromising creativity that drives the brand's new direction.
The choice of New York, an international crossroads of fashion, art and culture, reflects Jaguar's desire to engage in a creative dialogue that extends beyond the automotive sector. The name Type 01 also embodies this new direction. Type recalls the tradition of historic Jaguar models, the zero refers to zero tailpipe emissions, and the number one identifies the first model of a new generation.
