How did the Marty Supreme Ping Pong tournament go? The community challenged each other to celebrate the second weekend of the Oscar-nominated film
It almost feels pointless to deny that, just one week after its official Italian release, Marty Supreme has already become the film of the year. Josh Safdie’s latest film, distributed in Italy by I Wonder Pictures, has racked up an impressive 9 Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor. And what better way to celebrate these milestones than by turning the film’s universe into a ping pong tournament?
The community of nss magazine and DLSO gathered last night at Spazio Fonte for a series of table tennis matches, where 100 players channeled the competitive energy of Marty Mauser, facing off set after set in an atmosphere that was intense yet playful. An energy that never faded, fueled by Aperol cocktails—which also gave non-players a reason to enjoy the night—and by Lavazza coffee, essential in keeping players focused through the final hours of the event.
As the tournament progressed, with eliminations, comebacks, and spontaneous rivalries, DJ sets by http.alfio and Luna accompanied the evening, turning Spazio Fonte into a space dedicated to sport, cinema, and club culture. In the end, more than just a tournament, the event revealed itself as a natural extension of the Marty Supreme universe, capable of translating the film’s tension, obsession, and adrenaline onto the game table.
