If you thought skateboarding was a thing for boys, it is only because you didn’t know the Brujas. This group of New York skater girls – whose name is inspired by Skate Witches, 1986 film starring a trio of rebellious skater girls – have been practicing this sport for about eight years, but it is only recently, thanks to a photo become viral on Tumblr, that they have become popular (and spurred other girls to do the same).

They meet every day at the Bronx’s 157th Street park, they are staunch feminists, throw a party dedicated to queer culture that bears the name of Sucias and a month ago they set up an anti-Prom with the aim of involving all social and sexual minorities of the city.

Vogue America decided to meet them, and took some pictures of them in the neighbourhood where they grew up and go skateboarding every day: the Bronx.
