Timberland and Slam Jam Rewrite the History of the World's Most Famous Boot From the Paninari to New York's hip-hop scene, a collaboration that celebrates the cultural legacy of the iconic Timbs

Timberland and Slam Jam have unveiled their first collaboration, with the aim of reimagining a boot that defined an era. The story behind the project begins in New York — and that's no coincidence, given that the city has always been a meeting point for different cultures and youth movements, thanks to its multicultural identity. In the Nineties, the iconic boot was on everyone's feet, from construction workers to artists, becoming the symbol of an entire generation that wanted to combine practicality with the aesthetic appeal of a great shoe.
In Italy, however, when we talk about Timberland, the first reference that comes to mind is the Paninaro movement of the Eighties — a subculture that became the symbol of youth ostentation, but also the expression of a new cultural attitude that sought to distance itself from the political climate of the previous decade and embrace a fresher, more spontaneous contemporary spirit.
The boot has traveled the world and now symbolically returns to New York. Nearly forty years on, Slam Jam grants it a place of honor in the contemporary streetwear scene. The campaign is a tribute to the legacy of the Timbs, captured through the lens of photographer and visual artist Kennedi Carter, who chose rapper Wikiset as its protagonist. Born in New York, the artist is one of the founding members of Ratking, an underground hip-hop group that has become a landmark of the East Coast rap scene.
The Timberland x Slam Jam Heritage 6-Inch Waterproof Boot project offers a reinterpretation of the iconic waterproof silhouette. The design stays true to tradition, with the addition of a few contemporary details: the logos of both brands are engraved on the lateral side of the upper, while a silver chain holds a leather tag featuring Slam Jam's distinctive upside-down "A." Completing the model are two sets of interchangeable laces, one black and one smoky pearl. The story of these two brands speaks to far more than a simple shoe that, over the years, has earned worldwide fame. It is a testament to how an object born for work managed to become an icon of streetwear culture, crossing generations and cultural movements until it transformed into a piece that today is almost impossible not to have in your wardrobe.
