MQBMBQ's new zine

Born last October, the project My Queer Blackness, My Black Queerness (MQBMBQ) intends to explore the different perspectives of what it means to be Black and Queer in the different Italian social contexts. For this reason, together with Converse and its All Stars Program, MQBMBQ founded the digital platform The Queer Black Italian Experience - a digital space of expression and representation for Black Queer people in Italy, dedicated to their concerns and experiences. Today, those experiences and stories, along with the original photos of the project, become a fanzine decorated with artwork by artists Weel Lee and Paris Terrell. Together with the zine, a crowdfunding campaign was also presented on Patreon carried out in collaboration with Progetto IO - a Milanese group whose objective is to elevate the LGBTQ+ migrant community in Italy - to contribute to the creation of the documentary Siamo Qui about the group's activities.

In MQBMBQ's first zine, the artwork takes the form of images reinterpreted through colourful collages that capture the essence of each person through a visual history of layers and colours. The juxtaposition of images and personal experiences is enhanced by the very nature of zine – an underground cultural product par excellence and is expressive of the MQBMBQ project's desire to create its own independent context and narrative using resources within its community to demonstrate its full creative potential
