Queer Skate Milan

A Slam Jam editorial portraying Leo Baker and the THERE Skateboarding crew

Queer Skate Milan A Slam Jam editorial portraying Leo Baker and the THERE Skateboarding crew

Since its foundation in 2014, Brain Dead has built its identity on unexpected cultural references, often obscure, and on the recall to the underground world, to subculture and niche cultures, with special attention for the punk and the skateboarding scene. It comes as no surprise, therefore, that for its latest editorial, powered by Slam Jam, the brand that last November opened its first pop-up in the heart of Milan, chose an underground reality, a crew of skateboarders who go well beyond the deck.

The members of THERE Skateboarding are way more than simple skaters, they're artists and creatives who do not have limits nor restrictions when it comes to identity, freedom and self-expression. The name of the crew itself comes from a shared queer vision and values of the skaters, who find empowerment and confidence not only on the deck but above all in the relationship with the other skaters.

Led by Leo Baker, one of the most prominent names of the Nike SB team, the crew landed in Milan almost a month ago. In the images shot by Valentina De Zanche, the skaters are portrayed in the most iconic places of the city, from Milano Centrale, the most symbolic spot of the Milan skate scene, to Brera, Cimitero Monumentale and the alleys of the historic centre.

Bringing together Brain Dead and THERE Skateboarding is the sense and the importance of the community, which starts from the sharing of common and absolute values.
