Milan Design Week was postponed due to Coronavirus After the Fashion Week, the virus strikes another of the most important Milan events

The Coronavirus continues to shock Milan. After Armani, who chose to walk the runway behind closed doors during Milan Fashion Week; after the postponement of Mido, the most important eyewear fair in the world, which was scheduled from February 29 to March 2, the Salone del Mobile and the Fuorisalone will also be postponed to summer: Design Week will take place from Tuesday June 16th to Sunday June 21st. The decision, which, among many repercussions, will produce an estimated damage for the city of more than 120 million euros, was announced in these hours by Mayor Beppe Sala together with the organization of the Salon, convened to assess whether or not it was the case to cancel this year's edition.

Already in mid-February, when the Coronavirus emergency had not yet touched Italy, there was talk of an expected drop of 30-35 thousand visitors from Asian countries out of a total of 220-250 thousand. Now that eleven of the most fragile and elderly patients have died from the virus in northern Italy, the government has declared a state of emergency and quarantined a dozen small towns near Milan, the situation has plummeted. The cancellations have multiplied, not only of Asian buyers and exhibitors, seriously putting the world's leading Design event at risk.
