The unprecedented mash-up between Maison Margiela, Tabi Boots and Reebok

The brands have made a hybrid of one of their most iconic shoes

The unprecedented mash-up between Maison Margiela, Tabi Boots and Reebok The brands have made a hybrid of one of their most iconic shoes

During the week dedicated to Haute Couture SS20, John Galliano brought on the catwalk his personal vision of middle-class codes, revolutionized and reworked to show the changes of a society dominated by the cyber industry. Maison Margiela Artisanal's new creations, mostly made using recycled fabrics and clothes, reflect the great sartorial skill of the designer, a master in the art of bias cut. However, it's not only the classic pinstripe suits with visible stitching, the coats and jackets with layered volumes or the trench coat that looks like an evening dress with tulle or the see trough, décortiqué effect of the other garments that capture the attention. The real surprise of the collection is the shoes: a brand new sneaker version of the Tabi boot

The new model created by Galliano in collaboration with Reebok combines the famous Instapump Fury, a symbol of the 90s, with the iconic creation launched in 1988 by Martin Margiela and inspired by the homonymous traditional Japanese silhouette. The result is a hybrid and gender-fluid item that merges the technical characteristics of one with the unique aesthetics of the other: the Pump system that provides stability, custom fit, Hexalite cushioning and division of the thumb from the rest of the toes. The SS20 sneakers for next season will be available in two variants, flat and heeled. You can choose between six colourways: black or white, in yellow, black and red or white, blue and red, black with a transparent patch pump or black with crocodile print.

This is the first time that the iconic Tabi has become a sneaker. Until now, in fact, they had been presented in different styles: boots, pumps, flip flops, flats, mules, and sandals with transparent packing tape. Even the Instapump had already been reworked, covered with graffiti, by another influential designer, Demna Gvasalia for the SS17 show by Vetements. We think that Tabi Maison Margiela-Reebok will become one of the next summer's must-haves.
