How to turn your old puffer jacket into a puffer skirt

In the last couple of years, the puffer jacket has become the most popular outerwear piece. From being a handy coat to wear basically only in the coldest and darkest winter days, the "puffer" has become a must-have and a luxury item to show off: from the spectacular collection by Pierpaolo Piccioli for Moncler, to the darker and more feminine version by Jean Paul Gaultier and the sophisticated black satin and the floral patterns by Dries Van Noten. The ultimate protagonist of the street style, the puffer jacket presents many different versions, for shape and colours: metallic, glossy, with or without a hoodie, with pockets and various details and embellishments. Popular for its fluffy and soft volumes, the puffer evolved over the course of the years in terms of innovation of the production techniques and the water-resistant fabrics. It also became a very versatile item: sporty and practical, minimalistic and chic, swimming against the tide of high-end fashion austerity. 

Not only a coat but also a skirt. On catwalks and on the streets, we see more and more clothing items made of goose down. Few examples are the neon yellow mini-skirt by Moschino for H&M, the midi skirt with fur border by Thom Browne and the deconstructed skirt by the designer Marta Jakubowski - there is enough variety for every style and fashion taste.

Back to the do-it-yourself approach, the first rule is not to throw away the old puffer jackets you lost in the wardrobe years ago, that could be recycled to recreate a "puffer skirt" to complete a total look anti-cold ideal for winter. The puffer we used is made of super-thin and semi-opaque polyester, with a minimalistic design, and small details like snap buttons, lateral pockets, asymmetric line (the back part is a bit longer than the frontal). 

With a bit of creativity and a few small steps, here is how to recycle your old puffer.
