The searches made on Lyst, a leading online search engine within the fashion world, reveal a lot about the taste and the obsessions of its users. After the list of the most sought after women's items,  the most coveted men's sneakers, and the hottest brands of the first three months of 2019, Lyst has now published more interesting data, regarding the most searched women's tracksuits in Italy

The fact that there has been a +28% in the searches on Lyst in the 'Tracksuit' category over the last three months reflects an important pattern. Lately, there's been a lot of debate surrounding the concept of new tailoring, the end of sportswear and the decay of streetwear as we know it. Off-White, the brand that has turned sport into high fashion, and that was and remains its most prestigious advocate, during the last Paris Fashion Week sent out a strong signal: Virgil Abloh brought to the catwalk ladylike trenches, leather suits, belted blazers, feminine dresses, and long tight dresses, leaving no room for more sport oriented pieces. So then why do more and more women look for tracksuits on Lyst?

Italy is one of the countries where sportswear has reached its highest peak because, even before this definition was coined, the tracksuit was already in our closets. It has always carried a deeper and more symbolic value, connected with the idea of belonging to a specific neighbourhood or reality. If in Italy we didn't feel the same cultural and aesthetic effect of the casual culture as they did in the UK, and even though the Three Striped tracksuits worn by the Run DMC have left a light mark on our imagination, it's thanks to brands such as FILA, Sergio Tacchini, Kappa that in Italy the tracksuit has turned into an icon, the uniform for millions of kids. As we wrote here, the Italian rap scene has played a major role in the expansion and in the growth of the streetwear movement. At the time of Cavallini by Dark Polo Gang the references to the fashion world concerned luxury brands such as Burberry, Ferragamo, Gucci, meanwhile now Givova, Legea and Zeus tell stories of battles against institutions, poverty, province and jail.

Let's not forget an important detail though: the Lyst data refer to researches made by women. Until now the debate was quite male-dominated, while the entrance of women in a dominantly male environment has further elevated the concept of sportswear. In the last few years, the tracksuit has made its debut on the catwalks of ChloéVetementsGosha RubchinskiyGucci,  and Alexander Wang has turned its tracksuits made with adidas into one of his staple pieces. When talking about adidas it's impossible not to mention Daniëlle Cathari, who through cuts, layering and playing with contrasts has turned the adidas tracksuit into the new power suit of millions of girls.

In the top 3 of the most searched brands on Lyst - still in the tracksuit category - we find adidas (in second place), Nike in the first - proving once again the absolute dominance of the American brand in the sportswear industry, followed by the surprising third place of Palm Angels. The brand founded by Francesco Ragazzi has managed to perfectly blend the typical Italian sartorial background with the American aesthetic, giving life to sporty but luxury pieces.

In the top 3 of the most searched items we find in the first place the Palm Angels Side Stripe Track Trousers, followed quite unexpectedly by the Off-White x Nike jumpsuit, while in the third place the classic adidas adibreak  which prove that they're timeless.

As usual Lyst divides its researches also based on the Italian regions. Lazio is the region where the tracksuit is most sought after, followed closely by Sicily, even though in Campania, Toscana, Lombardia, Emilia Romagna and Piemonte the tracksuit still remains a hot piece.
