All the inspirations behind Kim Kardashian's look at the Met Gala Designed By Mugler as an homage to Sophia Loren

We were all waiting with great curiosity to see how the stars would interpret this year's Met Gala theme, Camp: Notes on Fashion, and, finally, we now know what they chose to wear for the most prestigious event of the season. There are those, like Katy Perry, who decided to transform into chandeliers and those, like Jared Leto in Gucci, who showed off their severed heads, the ultimate accessory. Lady Gaga combined several Brandon Maxwell outfits, Zendaya became Cinderella and all the other celebrities did their best to draw the attention by opting for outfits that would have been perfect even at a carnival party.

And what about Kim Kardashian? Mrs West walked on the red carpet next to her husband Kanye in a custom-made Thierry Mugler dress (it reportedly took about 8 months to make it) that fitted perfectly to her body, highlighting every curve.

The special detail, in addition to the deep neckline, was a shower of crystal drops that decorated also the transparent sandals and nails of the star. All elements that together with the smokey eyes and the wavy wet-looking hair decided by the designer, famous, as Kim told Vogue, for his aesthetic visions always imaginative and all-encompassing (including from dress to make-up):

This is the first time in 20 years Mr Mugler has designed for the House of Mugler. So to come and design this gown for me is such an honour. He envisioned me this California girl stepping out of the ocean, wet, dripping.

Shortly before the event, Kim had revealed on her social accounts the inspiration for her outfit: a tribute to the outfit worn by Sophia Loren in the 1957 film Boy on a Dolphin (which we included in the most memorable swimsuits in the history of cinema).

Although the one created for the Met Ball is the first project of the French designer in two decades, after he left his homonymous label in 2010, directed first by Nicola Formichetti and now by Casey Cadwallader, in recent times his creations have often been spotted on the red carpet. Certainly, you remember Kim with the black dress with cut out details then immediately copied by Fashion Nova or Cardi B with a dress inspired by Venus of autumn 1995 at Grammys.

To balance Kim's over the top look, Kanye West has decided to opt for a low-key, understated look, wearing a simple and sober black zipped-up jacket by Dickies, called The Eisenhower Jacket, inspired by General Dwight D. Eisenhower's World War II favourite jacket, priced $43.
