Stone Island releases Reflective Sweatshirt range In a new more stretchable textile

The last few years have seen an over growing infatuation with incorporating reflective materials within both street and higher fashion trends. Also, many sneakers models are now coming to market with at least some sort of small reflective detailing. A brand that’s been on the forefront of this technology for years is the ever innovative Stone Island. With one of their most legendary examples being their SS17 Mussola Gommata Reflective jacket. As you can imagine reflective fabrics when it comes to their build-up are very much based in the realms of the synthetic, where the aforementioned piece, for example, is made up 47% Fibreglass, 36% Polyamide, 17% Polyurethane.

This has meant that the feel of reflective materials has remained a bit ridged and has made making closer to skin items, such as reflective T’s and sweatshirt rare and often slightly uncomfortable. Stone Island has now produced a new reflective fabric mix that's made up of 80% Polyamide, 20% Elastane, making highly stretchable nylon jersey’s that are then coated with thousands of glass microspheres in a resin bath. The result is a range of sweatshirts and hoodies that shimmer like sunlight whilst having a much more malleable nature when it comes to their feel.

Available now via the Stone Island site, its flagships and select retailers check out the new reflective sweatshirt range here.
