Maison Margiela's meme show

A very ironic FW18 Couture

Maison Margiela's meme show A very ironic FW18 Couture

Like one of VFILES Instagram posts, or like REILLY's latest creation, Maison Margiela was all about exaggeration during its Paris fashion show, in a otherwise not very exciting Haute Couture Week.

A FW18 Couture made of memes

In an age where exaggeration is the trend, the brand founded by Martin Margiela experiments with different fabrics, from tulle to the quilted, bright colors and overlapping silhouettes, that follow last season's Balenciaga and Comme des Garçons proposals. Art turns into irony since it's impossible not to think about the caricatures that are so popular on Instagram at the moment. Have memes influenced Galliano? We can't answer this questions but the looks we saw in Paris remind us of the memes in which influencers and celebs wore oversized puffers, giant shoes, and extra large bombers jackets.

Beauty is questioned, female silhouttes are no longer on display, but are hidden under clothes that seem like art pieces or Kandinskij's paintings. Asymmetry and apparent chaos

Take a look at the meme-looks from Maison Margiela FW18 Couture below.
