Brace yourself for a weekend of art, culture, streetwear and White Street Market in Milan.
From 16 to 18 June, the Ex Ansaldo | Base in via Tortona 54, Milan will become the perfect place to spend a non-stop weekend between workshops, talks and photo exhibitions. From the subcultures of the '70s and' 80s to avant-garde streetwear, through documentaries and talks: the White Street Market is what was missing in Milan, an event open to the public, involving very different realities with the aim to stimulate the circulation of ideas and break down the distances between the public and the brands. 
In addition to the stands where it will be possible to buy exclusive products directly, there will be a series of talks, workshops, and screenings to which you can participate for free: here you will find a short recap of the most interesting events of the weekend, good White Street to everyone!

 

Talks & Films

SNEAKERNESS & adidas Originals: “sneakers evolution”

The talk recounts how the on-going search for design innovation, both in terms of shapes and technologies, has been welcomed and interpreted by the subcultures of the 20th century, down to the new generations. An excursus on the relationship between design and research on the one side, and between lifestyle and clean-cut style codes, on the other. A path in which adidas has played a key role, producing memorable icons, which can still lure the new generations.
On the occasion of the launch of the new adidas P.O.D. System, the brand will invite at White Street Market four graphic designers and illustrators that have reinterpreted the sneaker focusing on modern forms of art.  expression.

PATAGONIA - Talk + The Dawn Truth

Patagonia - always been at the forefront of environmental protection - will host on Saturday the talk “Good For Business Good for the Planet” with Gianluca Pandolfo - Sales Director of EMEA Patagonia. After the talk, there will the projection of the docu-film focused on Patagonia's Blue Heart campaign, the initiative aimed at aiding the local communities of the Balkans and protect them from over 3.000 hydro-electrical projects, thus averting the ensuing environmental disaster.

GABBER ELEGANZA & ROLLINGSTONE & CLUB TO CLUB

A talk that explores the relationship between subcultures, music and streetwear: gabbers, punks, mods, rockers... music has influenced the fashion scene in endless ways. A journey in time with a focus on the latest years, between clubbing and hip hop, with an eye to the future.

OBEY GIANT

Italian première at White Street Market of OBEY’s docufilm OBEY GIANT, telling the story of Shepard Fairey, founder of the brand and street artist, author of Hope, the colorful face of President Obama illegally put up on the city’s walls, generating an unparalleled media phenomenon. The documentary is directed by James Moll and produced by James Franco, Jennifer Howell, and Elysium Bandini Studios.

Workshops

OBD “Rework booth”

The notorious Milan's sneaker shop One Block Down proposes a special three-day workshop, which offers the audience the chance to try out a 360° sneaker customization. The public will have the possibility to customize shoes, garments, and accessories using an inkjet gun printer, capable of printing on any kind of surface a wide selection of pre-made graphics. Alternatively, they can hand-dye their footwear in special vats. Sneakers-victims are given a unique chance to customize or dye their own favorite footgear.

NO-MADE BOARDS: “DIY Wooden Surfboard”

A workshop to learn how to build your own surfboard: an experience guided by the No-Made Boards team to learn the techniques to craft a wooden surfboard using the “hollow” method, along with all the necessary tools of the trade.

EXKITE – “Fly your story with exKite”

Renzo Mancini and Eirinn Skrede of exKite illustrate the brand’s identity and tell a story of innovation focusing on sustainability, authenticity, and lifestyle. To follow, the exclusive première of the teaser of the project by ExKite in collaboration with Barneys NY.

WRÅD: “TO DYE FOR” Natural Dye Lab

Silvia Giovanardi, co-founder of WRÅD, leads the “Natural Dye Lab” with the WRÅD tees, the organic t-shirts designed and produced by the brand. The workshop invites the audience to live dye their white WRÅD tee, using natural materials like logwood, madder, anthemis tinctoria, and specific techniques like shibori, to obtain the bespoke WRÅD tee and actively partake in the sustainable innovation advocated by the brand.

GETTY IMAGES: “Within the subcultures”

Exhibition organized and curated by White Street Market in partnership with Getty Images, it explores the aesthetic power of the main subcultures of the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s. Through a photographic tale, Within the subculture explores the visual and aesthetic universe of five subcultures: punks, teddy boys, skaters, surfers and break-dancers.

“Illcentric: Ricky Powell New York Photos” curated by Le Grand Jeu
 


A selection of (over 50) shots by the acclaimed New York photographer, who has captured the music and art scene of his city, along with the cultural ferment from the ‘80s to the present day, with his shots of rap and hip-hop artists, from Beastie boys to Cypress hill, and personalities like Keith Haring, Basquiat, Andy Warhol, Cindy Crawford, etc. Next to the portraits of the celebrities, street photography documenting how passionately Ricky Powell captured the spirit of the underground culture of the day

A Ping-Pong tournament open to the public: the sport at which the homonymous founder of the brand Fred Perry was a champion. 8 pairs of participants will compete in the contest, including influencers and fashion/street insiders: the competitors will wear the brand’s iconic shirt, thus creating an ideal occasion to celebrate the great Fred.

Charity auction with Ground Zero Project by Massimo Sabbadin - Bad Spirit in favor of Only The Brave Foundation, which will donate the proceeds to the non-profit Piccolo Principe. At auction eight Bearbrick bears, customized by Bad Spirit and Bad Spirit x WHITE, and by the artists Aleandro Roncarà, Marco Lodola, Lacuna coil, CrazyTown, Marky Ramone feat Wardogs, and M-Ojo Risin’.
