The new film by Luca Guadagnino in collaboration with Pier Paolo Piccioli Now streaming on Mubi 'The Staggering Girl', the film inspired by Valentino Haute Couture latest collection

Almost a year after its premiere at Cannes Film Festival, on February 15th The Staggering Girl, the new film by Luca Guadagnino, has landed on Mubi. The film is a medium-length movie inspired by the 2018/19 collections of Valentino Haute Couture, directed by Guadagnino in a collaborative effort with Pier Paolo Piccioli

It's a simple story: triggered by an existence made of pain and distress, Francesca Moretti (Julianne Moore), an Italian-American writer who's working on her memoir, comes back to Rome to take care of her ailing mother (Marthe Keller) and to convince her to follow her to New York. As the daughter confronts her mother, among beautiful dresses, parties and wonderful palaces, ghosts of Francesca's youth return in a whirlwind of pain, memory and fulfilment.

The cast is dreamy: the main character is played by Julianne Moore, but above her, there are international stars (such as Kyle MacLachlan) and old friends both of Guadagnino (Mia Goth from Suspiria, Alba Rohrwacher and Edoardo Gabbriellini from I Am Love) and Pier Paolo Piccioli (such as Maria Carla Boscono). The soundtrack is composed by Ryūichi Sakamoto, which is mostly known for his collaborations with Bernardo Bertolucci.

The idea of working together has been discussed between Guadagnino and Piccioli since they first met back at the Valentino FW 2018/19 fashion show.

However, Guadagnino is not new to putting art into his works. From the high-class atmospheres of I Am Love (with an unforgettable Tilda Swinton) to the groundbreaking looks in A Bigger Splash; from the loveliness of Call Me By Your Name (the break-through of Timothée Chalamet) to the splatter-glam of Suspiria (the 2018 remake of the masterpiece by Dario Argento), Guadagnino has fully demonstrated that he is the best man to combine a commercial purpose with an artistic fleece.

The Staggering Girl is now streaming on Mubi all over the world, exception made for Italy, China, Japan and Russia.
