Fondation Louis Vuitton is preparing an exhibition of Jean-Michel Basquiat The retrospective will bring together 120 works of art of the iconic artist

Jean-Michel Basquiat is undoubtedly one of the most iconic artists in the history of 20th century art.

The restless boy who, in the late 70s and in the following decade, painted the streets of the Big Apple with graffiti signed with the acronym SAMO (Same Old Shit) is going to be celebrated by the Louis Vuitton Foundation in Paris in a monumental exhibition.

The retrospective, open from October 3 to January 14, 2019, will occupy all four floors of the Frank Gehry building with 120 of Basquiat's works from 1980 to 1988. These include the exceptional Basquiat trilogy Heads, the collaborative pieces created with Andy Warhol, as their painting Dos Cabezas and many works that have never been displayed before in Europe, like Obnoxious Liberals, In Italian or Riding with Death

According to the organizers, the exhibition will highlight the key features of Basquiat's art, including its inimitable touch, love of words, complexity and explosive political consciousness.

"Putting aside everything that is foreign, from biographical myths to market value considerations, this exhibition will be an opportunity to see Basquiat clearly: as a great artist and a genius of design".

A curiosity: in the same period the Louis Vuitton Foundation will host on the first floor a personal exhibition of Egon Schiele, the first retrospective dedicated to the artist in Paris in 25 years.
