Sunday Escape - Two Houses in Puertecillo

How to design in an innovative way and without spoiling the view a waterfront home on a narrow ground, squeezed between the sea and the cliff?

The Chilean architect's study 2DM has devised an original idea: split the house into two volumes, stacked one top of the other, rotated at right angles and high on stilts. Thanks to this solution, the outlook on the surrounding nature amplifies, giving a 360° view of the sea and the Puertecillo beach on the south and the cliffs and Navidad coastal communities on the north.

Two Houses, the name of the building, is made of blackened wood panels with frames, always in wood, but in contrasting yellow shades that surround the windows.

And the interior?

The walls and ceilings are covered with light wood boards, while the floor is covered with slightly darker boards. Black furniture that eembellishesspaces contrasts against pale surfaces. The first level is occupied by the master bedroom which through sliding glass doors leads to a terrace. A room with bunk beds occupies the other end of the floor and has two narrow windows set within protruding frames.

Upstairs there are kitchen, living room, dining room and two large windows.

Kitchen cabinets and shelving made of black wood panels are arranged along a whole wall, while the dining table is set in front of the window on the mountain side.The double structure adds a third smaller volume, on the ground floor that hosts the entrance staircase.

Two Houses gives an unexpected perspective to the Chilean coast, offering a total immersion in the surrounding landscape.
