adidas won't produce Bundesliga's footballs anymore Starting from the 2018-19 season, the task will be entrusted to Derbystar

There's a wind of change in the Bundesliga. In fact, it was announced that adidas won’t be the official supplier for the German league’s ball: it’s been taking care of the first and second league since the 2010-11 season.

About that Oliver Brüggen, adidas spokesman, released a brief comment: “Our chats with the DFL (Deutsche Fußball Liga) brought us to conclude not to keep our long and fruitful partnership later than the current expire set at the end of the 2017-18 season. As part of our strategy, we will focus even more on the partnership with the biggest international clubs and the most promising talents”. And maybe it can be imagined adidas’ strategy, which also took it to drop the partnership for the Ligue 1’s ball in favor of Uhlsport.

To take care of Bundesliga’s ball will be Derbystar: historical brand founded in 1968, it was acquired in 1991 by Select Sports A/S, a Danish brand founded back in 1947. Select is ball supplier for the north-central Europe’s leagues (Netherland, Belgium , nd Iceland among others) and it strengths its position with the addition of the Bundesliga. Actually, it would be better to talk about a return, as Derbystar already supplied for the Bundesliga’s ball back in 1979-80 season. The deal will be 4-years long and will expire at the end of the 2021-22 season.
