Raf Simons on why he accepted the position at Calvin Klein A strong tactile component distinguishes his latest collaboration with Kvadrat - and his choice to leave Dior

During an interview with Amuse, Raf Simons is open to confidences on his fourth and most recent collection with Kvadrat, manufacturing company he works with is from Jil Sander times. Ria is the final meeting between contemporary examples of Kvadrat and aesthetics of Simons, a tactile impressionism reminiscent divisionist approach lights and shadows typical of Pointillism. The strong tactile component distinguishes this collaboration which is positioned as a continuum in the career of Simons, Jil Sanders began to time and continuing until now with Calvin Klein.

The new position of Simons as creative head at the American Maison also appears in this context, linking the ability to literally entering into contact with the high-fashion products from which it was inspired.

Does it bother you that someone may be so influenced by your work but never have the chance to touch it?

is the question that has been asked and the answer is surprising. Simons fin act declares, with a disarming candor, that one of the main reasons that led to Calvin Klein is its availability on the market.

(...) the attraction and the reason why I came to Calvin is because it has the highest and the lowest and everything in between, so you can reach out to everybody. Which, in high fashion, is not always easy.

This contact with the general public almost impossible, for example, at Dior is everyday agenda for a brand like Calvin Klein.

"I remember when I was a young kid — not 16, more like 19 or 20 — I was obsessed with Helmut Lang. I couldn’t afford it, but I was connected. That was my world. Fashion-wise, it was my world. And at one point, I could maybe buy a shirt, but I was completely a Helmut Lang kid. It’s more about how you connect to it in your mind, I think. Of course you want some connection for yourself, but some brands it’s just not possible. You could not even buy a lace of a sneaker, it’s just too expensive".

Raf we understand you, how do we understand!
