Art Basel 2011 Miami Beach

Art Basel 2011 Miami Beach

Florida is preparing to welcome the tenth edition of Art Basel Miami Beach, the most prestigious art show in the Americas, from December 1st- 4th. More than 260 leading galleries from North America, Europe, Latin America, Asia, and Africa will take part, showcasing works by more than 2,000 artists of the 20th and 21st centuries. A focal point of the art exhibition is the Wynwood Arts Project, which had its beginning at the 2009 Art Basel. Conceived by the renowned community revitalizer Tony Goldman, The Wynwood Arts Project has transformed a run-down warehouse district into an outdoor exhibit of inspiration through the use of street art.  Documenting the brilliance of this major undertaking is "Here Comes The Neighborhood," a short-form docu-series that explores the power of public art and its impact on urban communities. The project has also brought some of the world's greatest graffiti artists to Miami, including Liqen, a Spanish street artist. Liqen is currently working on an extremely detailed mural for Art Basel 2011 that includes a maze, businessmen transforming into insects and giant rats, barbed wire, and dark looming clouds.  Proving to be a sunny contradiction to Liqen's mural, the future of art is looking bright, and we can't wait to enjoy the glow of the newest form of art with a cause.
